“Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree long time ago.” – Warren Buffett
Great results are caused to happen; they don’t simply occur. Every day, whether in connection with the sale of a business, strategic partnership, financing transaction or contract negotiation, we focus on the fundamental business terms that actually matter, while other lawyers debate minutia and details that will never again be read.
It isn’t most lawyers’ fault; law school did it to them.
We have simply learned over the course of time, that clients are often best served when we address the business issues that are truly important, and simply accept asks that aren’t. Sometimes, the best thing a business lawyer can do is to stop speaking, say “Yes” and allow clients to move on to the business of making a profit.
